CINCINNATI, Ohio - Butler scored twice in the second half and held Xavier to only one shot as the BU women's soccer team routed Xavier, 2-0, Friday afternoon. Seniors Abbie Kaul and Molly Kruger found the net for the Bulldogs.
Butler (4-5-0) took a 1-0 lead at 47:04 when Kaul scored from the right side of the box 16 yards out. Kruger was credited with the assist.
Kruger got a tally of her own at the 81:22 mark, chipping a shot over Xavier keeper Jenny Rosen from about 15 yards out. Seniors Morgan Cox and Angie Muir assisted on the goal, Kruger's first of the season.
"There are some interesting dynamics involved when you play a team that's 0-6 right after playing a ranked team," head coach Tari St. John said. "We're happy to get the win."
Butler outshot the Musketeers 14-1 and did not allow a shot on goal. BU's Jessica Schein played all 90 minutes to pick up the shutout. BU also had a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.
Kruger had a game-high four shots, with two tries on goal. Kaul, senior Lindsey Fox and sophomore Mandi Kotynski each had two shots.
Butler will play its third match of the week Sunday, Sept. 20 when it hosts Louisville at 1 p.m. at the Butler Bowl.
