DAYTON, Ohio - Senior Lindsey Fox scored in the 76th minute to give the Butler women's soccer team a 1-0 win at Wright State Sunday afternoon. The victory gives BU the edge for second place in the Horizon League standings.
Fox broke a scoreless tie at 76:35 on a play that was set up by freshman Katie Griswold and senior Molly Kruger. Griswold crossed to Kruger, whose shot was directed by Fox into the far corner.
The Bulldogs' defense made the goal stand up. BU (7-8-0, 3-1 HL) held Wright State to five shots the entire match. Junior keeper Jessica Schein made one save and picked up her second shutout of the season.
"It was a dog fight, and we came out the winner," head coach Tari St. John said. "Field conditions were poor due to the rain. Not much soccer was played. We showed a pure will to come home with a win."
WSU (8-5-2, 3-1 HL) was previously unbeaten in conference play, and now the Bulldogs are tied with the Raiders for second in the standings.
"We still have a lot of soccer to play and some difficult road matches," St. John said. "But I like the momentum and confidence that is building with our team."
Fox and senior Carrie Twyman each had two shots to lead the Bulldogs.
