YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Butler controlled play all day and had a lead in the second half, but Youngstown State scored late as the BU women's soccer team tied Youngstown State, 1-1, Sunday afternoon. Senior Abbie Kaul scored a second-half goal for the Bulldogs, her third goal of the season.
Butler (7-9-1, 3-2-1 HL) had 22 shots compared to six for Youngstown State. BU had nine tries on target and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks, but Kaul was the only Bulldog to find the back of the net.
Kaul's goal came at 56:13 on the tail end of a direct kick after YSU's Jordan Gapczynski was issued a yellow card. Senior Molly Kruger picked up an assist on the play. Kruger leads Butler with six assists for the season.
YSU's Kara Cooper scored in the 69th minute, her 8th goal of the season. Kelly Storkel assisted on the tally.
Sophomore Olivia Walter made her second start of the season in goal. She played all 110 minutes and made two saves.
Kruger led the Bulldogs with nine shots, two on goal. The nine shots was the highest total for a Butler player this season. Freshman Katie Griswold had five shots while Kaul and senior Lindsey Fox each had two tries.
