TOLEDO, Ohio - Junior Courtney Lord scored in the eighth minute and sophomore Mandi Kotynski tallied the game-winner in the second half as the Butler women's soccer team won, 2-1, Sunday afternoon.
Lord's tally, her first of the year, came at the 7:30 mark and gave BU a 1-0 lead. Toledo answered early in the second half when Jaimie Morsillo took a pass from Molly Cornwell and scored at 55:19.
Kotynski's game-winner came at 70:47. She stole the ball from UT's keeper and then fired a zero-angle shot into the side of the net.
"Mandi's goal was flat out effort and composure," head coach Tari St. John said.
Toledo managed an 18-7 advantage in shots and an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.
BU goalkeeper Jessica Schein had five saves in 90 minutes of work. Lord and senior Angie Muir led the Bulldogs with two shots each.
"Schein had an outstanding day," St. John said. "When you play regionally ranked opponents, your goalkeeper is going to get called on for some big saves. Jess responded very well."
Butler (2-3-0) plays two road matches this week, traveling to DePaul Friday, Sept. 11 for a 5 p.m. match and to Indiana State two days later. Sunday's match kicks off at 1 p.m.
