INDIANAPOLIS – With the Bulldogs trailing by a goal, Katie Griswold scored in the 65th minute as the Butler women’s soccer team tied IUPUI, 1-1, in an exhibition match over the weekend. Butler is now 1-0-1 this spring.
The Jaguars scored on a corner kick in the 51st minute, and held the lead until Griswold’s goal. Cara Burchett made the play, sending a corner kick into the box to find Griswold, who volleyed a shot in from six yards out.
“I was pleased with the number of goal scoring chances that were created,” head coach Tari St. John said. “IUPUI does a nice job of making it very difficult to penetrate into the offensive half. We saw this tactic last fall from them. I thought our ability to break them down and unbalance them was much, much better today. “
St. John also cited the stellar play of her young outside backs, Burchett and Claire Milam.
“I was impressed with the play of our outside backs today,” she said. “Cara and Claire are really starting to figure things out defensively and offensively. Both of them had major contributions in the match.”
BU’s next exhibition match is Saturday, April 3 at Ohio.
