Butler freshman Olivia Colosimo will be one of 28 players from Canada heading to Brazil later this month for a national team training camp. This comes just weeks after the midfielder helped the Butler women's soccer team to a Horizon League regular season title and a runner-up finish in the league tournament.
"It's exciting," Colosimo said. "To be recognized as one of the top players in Canada in my age group is an honor."
Colosimo, a native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, attended an East/West camp in Canada last summer, with approximately 80 players from all over Canada. The field was pared down to 28, and Colosimo is one of the remaining athletes.
Along with nine other freshmen, Colosimo helped Butler go 6-2 in league play and gain the top seed in last week's league championship. Colosimo was named to the conference's all-newcomer team, along with teammates Jackie and Nikki Hafele. She started all 20 matches of her freshman season, scoring six points (1g-4a). She had 28 shots, good for third on the team.
She will be training in Brazil from Nov. 28-Dec. 7.
