Butler women's soccer, just one point out of first in the league standings, will face a pair of key league tests this weekend. The Bulldogs, coming off a 1-0 win at Milwaukee, will host Loyola Friday afternoon at the Butler Bowl before traveling to Detroit for a Sunday match.
Loyola (3-1-1) and Detroit (3-1-1) are tied atop the Horizon League standings with 10 points, while Butler, Milwaukee and Cleveland State each have nine points. The Bulldogs scored two of their biggest wins of the season last weekend, winning at Green Bay and UWM.
"As big of a weekend as that was, if we don't give it meaning in the next four games, it can become a forgotten weekend," head coach Tari St. John said. "So that's our job now, to give the Green Bay win and the Milwaukee win some meaning."
Junior goalkeeper Olivia Walter was named Horizon League Women's Soccer Player of the Week for her two shutouts in Wisconsin. The Fairview, Tenn., native had three saves in Butler's 3-0 win over the Phoenix and then stopped a career-high 10 shots against the Panthers. Sophomore Katie Griswold scored the game-winner against Milwaukee, her seventh goal of the season.
Following this weekend's action, Butler will host Cleveland State and Youngstown State during Homecoming weekend.
