INDIANAPOLIS - Two forwards from Butler women's soccer earned All-Horizon League recognition, as junior Katie Griswold was named first team All-Horizon League and freshman Elise Kotsakis was a second-team pick. Kotsakis was also voted to the league's all-newcomer team.
"I want to congratulate Katie and Elise on earning all-conference recognition," head coach Tari St. John said. "They are truly deserving players and important to our program. We have such a balanced team and had many players that are of all-league caliber. It's nice to have some of our players recognized by the league's other head coaches."
Voting was conducted by the league's nine head women's soccer coaches.
Griswold, a native of Youngstown, Ohio, earned first-team honors for the second straight season. She has six goals this year and ranks second on the team with 13 points. Griswold, who was also on the all-newcomer team in 2009, scored three goals against Horizon League opponents this season.
Kotsakis, a Palatine, Ill., native, has been an immediate impact player in her first year at Butler. Kotsakis leads the Dawgs in points (14), shots (68) and game-winning goals (3). Her six goals ties Griswold for the team lead, and her shots total ranks second in the Horizon League.
St. John, in her sixth season at BU, has now coached 14 different players who have earned All-Horizon League honors. There has been a Butler player named first team All-Horizon League eight times since St. John has been the coach of the Bulldogs.
Butler (8-9-1), seeded sixth in this week's Horizon League Women's Soccer Championship, will play at No. 3 Valparaiso Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. ET.
