2012 Butler Women's Soccer
Butler (6-3-1) vs. Saint Louis (2-5-2)
Saturday, Sept. 29 - 7 p.m. ET
Indianapolis, Ind. - Butler Bowl
The Butler women's soccer team will kick off Atlantic-10 play Saturday when it hosts Saint Louis at 7 p.m. at the Butler Bowl. The red-hot Bulldogs will be looking to extend their win streak to four games.
A large part of Butler's recent success has been the stellar play of freshman midfielder Sophia Maccagnone.
Maccagnone ranks first in the A-10 with four game-winning goals and is tied for the league lead with seven total goals. The Shelby Township, Mich., native has been named the Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week the past two weeks.
With Maccagnone leading the way, the Bulldogs (6-3-1) have been firing on all cylinders.
The team ranks third in the A-10 in shots attempted (151), while ten different players have recorded a point.
Butler has also enjoyed solid defensive play this season.
The Bulldogs have allowed just eight goals on the year, tying them with VCU for the league-lead. Meanwhile, the team's two goalkeepers, junior Julie Burton and freshman Mackenzie Hopkins, have combined for a conference-best five shutouts.
Saturday's match will be Butler's first test against a league opponent this year and the school's fifth Atlantic-10 contest, including volleyball and football.
The Billikens (2-5-2) will enter the match-up having won just one of their last six matches.
Out of 16 teams in the A-10, Saint Louis ranks 15th in points, assists and goals. No Billikens player ranks in the league Top 10 in an offensive category.
