After helping Butler to a fourth place finish in the Atlantic 10, freshman midfielder Randi DeLong has earned Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week honors. The Dayton, Ohio native recorded three points over the weekend as the Bulldogs knocked off conference opponents George Washington and Charlotte on the road.
DeLong's first collegiate goal was the game-winner in Butler's 1-0 victory over George Washington Friday. Her score came in the 60th minute.
Two days later, DeLong assisted the lone score in the Bulldogs' 1-0 win over Charlotte Sunday. DeLong found fellow freshman midfielder Sophia Maccagnone in the 108th minute to knock off the 49ers and help Butler clinch the fourth seed in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship.
The Bulldogs will play fifth-seeded St. Bonaventure in the tournament's opening round in Kingston, R.I. at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1.
DeLong has started 16 of 19 matches this season for Butler and has attempted 11 shots on the year.
