Coming off one of its best seasons ever, the Butler women's soccer program has scheduled a challenging spring exhibition slate in preparation for the 2013 season. The Bulldogs will take on a mix of regional powers and local rivals this spring.
The spring exhibition season opens Saturday, March 2 at Purdue when BU takes on Purdue and Milwaukee. Butler won at Purdue last fall 1-0 on a goal in the 80th minute, and Milwaukee is the perennial power in the Horizon League.
BU also takes on Miami (Ohio), a squad that went 20-3-1 and advanced to the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship's second round, as well as crosstown opponent IUPUI. In early April, BU will travel to former league opponent Wright State. WSU was among the nation's best defensive teams, ranking 18th in the country in goals-against average. Comparatively, Butler was ranked 21st in GAA last season.
The Bulldogs host solid NCAA Division II teams Indianapolis and Bellarmine Saturday, April 13 at the Butler Bowl before closing the spring slate at Indiana State, a team Butler defeated 3-0 last fall.
Butler, under head coach Tari St. John, posted a 12-5-4 record and placed fourth in the standings in its first season as an Atlantic 10 Conference member. The Bulldogs set school records in 2012 for fewest losses (5) and fewest goals allowed (15). BU is set to return nine starters from last year's successful team.
