Women’s Soccer Excels in Classroom
The Butler women’s soccer program had a successful 2013-14 season both on the field and in the classroom. The unit maintained a 3.588 grade point average during the fall semester of 2013, during their inaugural season in the BIG EAST conference, and upped their team GPA to 3.622 this spring.

Butler Women’s Soccer Announces Camp Schedule
The Butler women’s coaching staff will host three camps this spring with dates ranging from March 2, March 22, and April 25. The first two camps carry the same format; however the third camp in April will feature three different sessions.

2013 Women’s Soccer Season in Review
The 2013 Butler women’s soccer season was full of excitement as the team posted an 11-7-2 overall record which included a 4-5 mark in the BIG EAST conference. The Bulldogs were highly competitive in their first season in the new conference as they came away as the No. 5 seed in the BIG EAST tournament.

Bulldogs Place Two on NSCAA All-Northeast Region Team
Sophia Maccagnone and Serina Kashimoto were recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for their outstanding level of play during the 2013 season. Each player was honored as an All-Northeast Region selection with Maccagnone earning First Team honors for the second year in a row, and Kashimoto taking home Second Team accolades.

The Butler women’s soccer team was recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for their hard work in the classroom as the team finished the 2012-13 season with a GPA above 3.0.

Three Bulldogs Earn All-BIG EAST Honors
The Butler women’s soccer team had three student-athletes voted on to All-BIG EAST teams on Thursday night at the end of the season banquet. Sophomore Sophia Maccagnone was a first team selection while freshman Serina Kashimoto and junior Elise Kotsakis took home second team honors.

Women’s Soccer Falls 3-2 at St. John’s in BIG EAST Quarterfinals
Three second half goals in less than a 10 minute span allowed the Red Storm to defeat Butler in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Championship Tournament on Tuesday night. Katie Griswold scored a goal for Butler in the first half and Sophia Maccagnone added her 10th goal of the season late in the match to pull within one, but it wasn’t enough as St. John’s moves on to face Marquette on Friday night in the semifinals.

Women’s Soccer at St. John’s for BIG EAST Quarterfinals Match
The Butler women’s soccer team will play at St. John’s in the Quarterfinals of the 2013 BIG EAST Championship Tournament. The Bulldogs ended the regular season with an 11-6-2 record which included a 4-5-0 mark in conference action. They will face the Red Storm on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.

Bulldogs Drop Regular Season Finale at Marquette 2-1
The 2013 Butler women’s soccer regular season came to a close on Saturday night as the Bulldogs took a 2-1 loss at Marquette. The Golden Eagles scored one goal in each period to earn their 16th win of the season. Butler got on the scoreboard late with a header goal from Elise Kotsakis.

Griswold Lifts Butler Over Creighton in Overtime
The Butler women’s soccer team recorded another overtime victory as the team came up with a 1-0 win at Creighton on Saturday night. Katie Griswold scored the game-winning goal in the 95th minute off an assist from Kelly Mahoney.

The end of the 2013 regular season is quickly approaching as the Bulldogs end the year with two road games. Butler will play at Creighton on Saturday, Oct. 26 before finishing the season the following Saturday with a match at No. 17 Marquette on Nov. 2. The Bulldogs are currently in fifth place in the BIG EAST standings.

Bulldogs Win on Senior Day
The women’s soccer team defeated Xavier on Sunday afternoon by the final score of 1-0 in the regular season home finale. Five seniors jumped into the starting lineup for the Bulldogs against the Musketeers as a second half goal pushed Butler’s overall record to 10-5-2.

Butler outshot DePaul 18-6 on Thursday afternoon, but the final outcome didn’t reflect the stat line as the Blue Demons handed the Bulldogs a 1-0 road loss. Elise Wyatt scored the game-winning goal in the 59th minute off an assist from Nina Kodros.

Women’s Soccer at DePaul Before Hosting Xavier
The Butler women’s soccer team will travel to Chicago on Thursday to face the DePaul Blue Demons at 4 p.m. The weekend will come to a close with the Bulldogs hosting Xavier on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. The match against the Musketeers will serve as senior day for Mary Allen, Ali Backscheider, Julie Burton, Olivia Colosimo, Katie Griswold, and Anna Ventimiglia.

The Butler women’s soccer team defeated Providence by the final score of 2-1 on Saturday night. The Bulldogs led 1-0 at the half and a quick overtime goal from Sophia Maccagnone lifted the team to victory over the Friars.

Bulldogs Win BIG EAST Match In Overtime
Forward Elise Kotsakis scored a golden goal less than two minutes into the first overtime period to lift Butler to a 2-1 victory over visiting St. John’s in a BIG EAST match on Sunday (Oct. 6). The victory was Butler’s first in four BIG EAST matches and lifted the Bulldogs to 8-4-2 on the season.

The Butler women’s soccer team improved to 7-1-2 overall on Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 shutout win at IUPUI. The Bulldogs controlled much of the action against the Jaguars, but it was a penalty kick from sophomore Sophia Maccagnone that made the difference as Butler came up with a late goal to win the match.

Butler earned their sixth win of the season on Wednesday night by defeating the Wright State Raiders by the final score of 4-3. WSU tied the game in the 83rd minute of action, but Elise Kotsakis came away with the game-winner off an assist from Katie Griswold.

The Butler women’s soccer team ended the weekend with another tie as the Bulldogs move to 4-1-2 on the season. Butler scored a goal in the 28th minute to take the lead, but Eastern Michigan countered with a goal in the 64th minute of action to tie the game.

Late Goal Leads to 1-1 Tie
The Bulldogs held a 1-0 lead heading into the final minute of regulation, but a Seattle goal with 44 seconds remaining on the game clock sent the match into overtime. After 20 extra minutes, neither team was able to score giving each club their first tie of the season. Butler moves to 4-1-1 on the year while the Redhawks leave the Butler Bowl with a 2-1-1 overall mark.

Burton Named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Senior Julie Burton was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week for her performances against Northern Kentucky and Bowling Green. Burton helped Butler shutout the Norse 3-0 and she was also heavily involved in the 2-1 overtime win over the Falcons.

Butler recorded their third shutout of the season on Monday afternoon by defeating IPFW by the final score of 2-0 at the Hefner Soccer Complex. Two first half goals led the team to victory as Elise Kotsakis and Sophia Maccagnone each found the back of the net early in the contest.
