Butler and host Louisville battled through 90 minutes of regulation and two overtime periods before finishing in a scoreless tie. The outcome leaves the Bulldogs 1-0-1 on the young season. Butler has yet to allow a goal through two games.
Katie Sanders and Megan Cappa split time in goal for the Bulldogs for the second consecutive game. Sanders had three saves, while Cappa stopped two shots. Coach Woody Sherwood once again used a good portion of his young roster as 18 Bulldogs saw action in the contest.
Louisville outshot the Bulldogs 18-7, but only put five of their shots on goal. Meredith Miller played all 110 minutes in goal for the Cardinals, making three saves. More than 300 fans turned out for the Cardinals' home opener.
Butler travels to the U.S. Naval Academy for neutral site matches against Drexel and Towson, on Friday and Sunday, respectively. The Bulldogs then return home for an in-state battle against Indiana Friday, Sept. 12. The 7 p.m. tilt will be played under the lights at Lawrence Park.
