CINCINNATI, OHIO - The Butler women's soccer team captured a 1-0 double overtime win over Xavier on Sunday (Sept. 1) at Corcoran Field. The win boosted the Bulldogs record to 2-0, while the Musketeers fell to 0-2.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie for the first 90 minutes of regulation play and over 18 minutes of overtime action before Butler's Amy Morrison finally found the back of the net. Morrison's goal, her third of the season, was aided by freshman midfielder Meredith Buemi at the 108:16 mark to give the visitors the victory.
Both teams had numerous chancees in regulation to win the match. Xavier finished with 14 shots, including seven shots on goal. Two of XU's seven other shots hit the post in the first half of regulation. Butler finished with 13 shots, including six shots on goal. The Bulldogs also missed scoring a goal at the end of the first half by a split second.
Junior Amber Stauch went the distance in the goal for the Bulldogs, recording seven saves. Her counterpart, Megan Veith posted five saves for the Musketeers.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Friday (Sept. 6) at Illinois in a 7 p.m. contest.
