Seniors Amy Pike and Krista Rott joined Meredith Buemi in the scoring column Sunday. Butler improved to 3-0-1 on the young season with the 3-1 victory over Towson in a match played at the U.S. Naval Academy.
Just six minutes into the game, Pike scored her first game of the season as Tiger goalkeeper Yasmin Alter misplayed a shot in the box. Caitlin Gill and Buemi were credited with assists on the play. The assist is the first point of Gill's collegiate career.
Buemi scored on a breakaway in the 16th minute, taking a pass from Pike. The sophomore's tally was her fourth on the year. The reigning Horizon League "Player of the Week" scored both Butler goals in the Bulldogs' 2-0 victory Friday over Drexel.
Holly Noga scored on a penalty kick for the Tigers in the 71st minute. Noga's goal is the only goal allowed by Butler in the team's first four games. Rott rounded out the scoring when she netted a penalty kick of her own in the 87th minute.
For the fourth straight match, Katie Sanders and Megan Cappa split time in goal. Sanders made two saves in the first half before giving way to Cappa. The freshman made one save, while allowing the Tigers' lone goal. Alter made two saves and allowed all three Butler scores for Towson.
The Bulldogs return home to play Indiana Friday night at 7 p.m. The match will be played at Lawrence Park in Indianapolis. Butler plays host to Xavier at 1 p.m. Sunday at Varsity Field on the Butler campus.
