Freshman Megan Pipkens scored a goal and added an assist to help lead visiting Indiana to a 3-0 victory over Butler in a game played in front of 1,522 fans at Lawrence Park in Indianapolis on Friday (Sept. 12). The victory lifted Indiana to 2-3 on the season, while Butler, playing in front of its largest crowd of the season, suffered its first loss and fell to 3-1-1.
The Hoosiers took command early with a goal by Kristen Zmijewski just 2:28 into the contest. The sophomore forward caught a rebound off of Butler goalkeeper Katie Sanders and knocked a shot into the net from just three yards out.
Indiana made it 2-0 at 30:02 when Missy Vierling took a cross from Pipkens and slipped a shot past Sanders from two yards out. Senior Emily Hotz picked up a second assist on the goal.
Pipkens closed out the Hoosiers' scoring at 54:26 by knocking in a goal from 15 yards out after coming up with a steal. It was her second goal of the season.
Indiana attempted 15 shots in the match, and Sanders picked up four saves, while falling to 2-1-1 on the year. Senior Krista Rott finished the match with three of Butler's four shots.
The Bulldogs will continue their homestand with a match against Xavier on Sunday, Sept. 14. The contest is slated for 1 p.m. at Varsity Field.
