Columbia, Mo. - A goal by host Missouri in the 84th minute broke a 1-1 tie and spoiled a gutsy defensive performance by the Bulldogs, as Butler dropped a 2-1 decision on Sunday (Sept. 14) evening.
The two teams appeared to be heading into the half in a scoreless tie, as Butler was held without a shot while breaking up 11 shots by the Tigers.
That all changed in the final minute of play, as Missouri netted the first strike of the game at 44:14 for a 1-0 lead.
Butler was quick to respond, however, as junior Carrie Twyman found freshman Mandi Kotynski in stride, who buried the equalizer and her second goal of the season just 17 seconds after the restart at 44:31.
The game followed the same trend in the second period, as defense dominated heading into the final 10 minutes of the match, but the Tigers would break through in the 84th minute of play for the game winner.
The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday (Sept. 18) when they head to Bloomington, Ind., to take on the Hoosiers beginning at 7:30 p.m.
