Chicago, Ill. - A header by Loyola's Heather Lau in the 13th minute of play proved to be the deciding point of the match, as Butler was unable to find the back of the net for the tying strike in falling to the Ramblers, 1-0, on Sunday (Oct. 14).
Lau notched the lone tally of the afternoon, heading in a cross from the left side by Cara Morawski.
After being limited to just one shot in the opening half, the Bulldogs came back with six shots in the final stanza, but none would find pay dirt. Freshman Courtney Lord and sophomore Carrie Twyman finished with two shots each for Butler.
"I am very proud of the effort the team put forth today," head coach Tari St. John said following the match. "In the second half, we played some of our best soccer of the season and Loyola is a very good team.
"What I liked best was that we fought for the tie until the final whistle. Since there are no guarantees in the game of soccer, that is a risk that is not often taken. When you are playing down a goal, it is easier mentally to just close up shop and wait for the next game."
The Bulldogs return to action next Sunday (Oct. 21) when they head to Norman, Okla. for a 2:00 p.m. ET match with the Sooners.
