Bulldogs Fall Short At Green Bay, 2-1

Green Bay, Wis. - Butler put itself on the board in the 85th minute of play against host Green Bay, as Sarah Phelps drilled a penalty kick for her second goal of the season, but a pair of strikes by the Phoenix would hold up in the end as the Bulldogs fell, 2-1, at Santaga Stadium on Sunday (Oct. 19) afternoon.

Trailing 2-0 in the final five minutes of play, the Bulldogs were awarded a penalty kick after a hand ball was called on Green Bay inside of their own 18-yard box. Phelps was summoned to take the shot, and promptly cut the Phoenix lead in half with her second score of the season.

Butler would be unable to find the equalizer, however, as Green Bay kept the Bulldog offense off kilter for the final minutes.

The Phoenix spotted itself a 1-0 lead early in the first period, as Sharon Zurbey chipped in a crossing pass from seven yards out in the 18th minute of play.

The Bulldogs had a golden opportunity to bring the score back to even just over 10 minutes later, as Cara Burchett trained a booming 30-yard shot on goal that hit off the crossbar and bounced down in front of the net but evaded the plane of the goal.

Green Bay would build on its lead in the second on a 12-yard strike from Laura Hamer that gave the Phoenix its difference in the game.

The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday (Oct. 21) when it hosts Indiana State beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Varsity Field.
