VALPARAISO, IND. - The Butler women's soccer team moved to 12-4 on the season with a 3-0 non-conference victory over Valparaiso on Sunday at Eastgate Field. The win is just one shy of tying the program's all-time record, which was set last season when the Bulldogs finished 13-7.
The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard just 4:17 into the match as Krista Rott converted a penalty kick after getting fouled hard at the top of the penalty area.
Maura Murphy put the Bulldogs ahead 2-0 at the 30:23 mark as she took a long pass from Kristen Aaltonen and beat Valparaiso's Danielle Guerra from about 25 yards out. The goal was Murphy's second of the season.
Rott then added her second tally of the match, and her ninth of the season, at the 58:00 mark as she headed home a Meredith Buemi cross to conclude the scoring.
Butler narrowly outshot the Crusaders 12-10 on the match, but held a commanding 7-3 shot-on-goal edge. Katie Sanders finished with three saves in recording the shutout victory, while Guerra tallied four saves. Each team committed ten fouls in the contest, while Butler held a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks.
The Bulldogs will take on in-state rival Indiana on Wednesday (Oct. 30) at 7 p.m. before hosting Horizon League foe Youngstown State on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Varsity Field.
