Butler Bows Out of 2006 Season with Horizon League Tournament Loss

The Bulldogs could not pull off a second upset in the 2006 Horizon League Championships, falling 3-1 at the hands of Loyola. Butler ends its 2006 campaign with an overall record of 6-11-3.

The Ramblers scored first, with their first goal coming on a header from Ashley Morawski in the 30th minute of play. Loyola's second goal came just about four minutes later on a ball chipped past Butler goalkeeper Kirby Zwickel by Mary Dale to send the teams into the halftime break with the Ramblers ahead 2-0.

Loyola scored its third goal just before the 80-minute mark on a shot off of a steal from seven yards by Amy Lomas. Butler answered with its lone goal just before the 85-minute mark on a three-yard shot from Jamie Martin. Angie Muir brought the ball up field, beating her defenders and then crossing to Martin for the score.

Butler was out-shot 19-8 in the contest. Loyola also took more corner kick opportunities, with four to the Bulldogs' two.

Zwickel took the loss in the net for Butler, making five saves before giving way to Annalise Larkin in the 59th minute of play. Larkin made one save in just more than 31 minutes of work.
