Butler Women's Soccer Team Places Six on All-League Teams

Nov. 7, 2001

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Butler women's soccer team had two players named to the 2001 Horizon League Women's Soccer All-League First Team and four players named to the All-League Second Team, the league office announced today.

Junior defensive player Hadiatu Dumbuya and junior forward Amy Morrison were both received first team honors, as teammates Martha Gudiel, Susannah Hoppe, Krista Rott and Amber Stauch were all cited to the second team.

Dumbuya, who was also named to the all-conference first team in 1999 and 2000, is Butler's top defender, playing a large role in the Bulldogs' four shutouts this season. She has started and played in 16 out of the team's 17 matches during this season, helping Butler compile an impressive 11-6 overall record.

Morrison was also selected to the all-conference first team last season and has started in all 17 outings during the 2001 campaign. She leads the Bulldogs in points (35), assists (13) and goals (11). Her current mark of 13 assists ties the single-season mark set by former Bulldog Chris Johnson in 1994. Morrison's 35 points thus far are just two points shy of Johnson's record-setting mark, also set in 1994. For her efforts on the field over the past week (Oct. 29-Nov. 4), the Plano, Texas native was named the Horizon League Player of the Week.

Gudiel has appeared in all 17 games this season, and ranks second on the squad in goals scored (9) and points (23). The junior forward has scored two game-winning goals this season, and was named to the all-newcomer and all-conference second team in 1999.

Hoppe, a product of The Collegiate School in Richmond, Va., has started in all 17 outings this season. She has recorded two assists on the year, giving the senior midfielder two points.

As a 5-5 forward, Rott ranks second on the squad with seven assists and third on the team with 17 points. The sophomore from Carmel, Ind. has scored three game-winning goals while playing in all 17 games this season.

Stauch, Butler's primary goalkeeper, was a member of the conference's all-newcomer team last season. She currently holds a 1.43 goals against average and has posted four shutouts on the season. Her 3,627 career minutes played ranks second on Butler's all-time list and her 85 saves thus far in the season places her fourth on Butler's single-season chart. She was also named the Horizon League Player of the Week earlier in the season for her efforts on the field.

Butler will look to tie the program's single-season record for wins (12) when the No. 2 seeded Bulldogs take on No. 7 seeded Youngstown State tomorrow (Nov. 8) at 11 a.m. in the Horizon League Tournament in Detroit, Mich.
