March 11, 2002

INDIANAPOLIS, IND.-The Butler women's soccer team, which posted a school-record 13-7 mark last season, has made the first step in ensuring its future success by signing six top recruits. Carrie Colglazier (Noblesville, Ind.), Meredith Buemi (Westerville, Ohio), Maura Murphy (Glen Ellyn, Ill.), Kate Lord (Brighton, Mich.), Emily Kutzler (Evansville, Ind.) and Kathleen Coyle (Carmel, Ind.) signed the national letter of intent and will be the newest members of the 2002 roster.

Colglazier, a standout at Hamilton Southeastern, was a three-time first team all-conference selection and was cited to the all-state team as a defender her senior year. She was named her team's Defensive MVP in 1999 and the Offensive MVP in 2001. Colglazier also excelled in track at Hamilton Southeastern as she was named to the all-county, all-conference and all-state teams in 1999 and 2000. She played club soccer for Carmel Magic. "Carrie was one of the top athletes in the city this past season and possesses tremendous potential," said head coach Woody Sherwood, who just completed his third year with the team.

A product of Westerville North High School, Buemi was a four-year varsity letterwinner and a two-time all-conference selection as a midfielder. Buemi was also a track standout, as her 4x200m and 4x400m relay teams made the state finals. She played club soccer for two-time state champion COSA Express. "Meredith has exceptional speed, and we look for her to make an impact at wide midfield," stated Sherwood.

Murphy was named to the all-area team her junior and senior seasons at Glenbard West High School. Leading the team in scoring her senior season as a midfielder, she was also named to the first team all-conference. Murphy played club soccer for Eclipse Select. Sherwood touts Murphy to be "a good athlete and a very versatile player who will contribute in the midfield and up top."

Lord, a midfielder, was a three-time all-region, all-county, all-district and all-state selection at Brighton High, where she helped her prep squad to four state championships. "Kate's experience at the elite club and Olympic Development Program levels will help her contribute immediately" said Sherwood. Lord played club soccer for Vardar, Michigan's regional champion.

A two-time captain for Evansville Central, Kutzler was named to the all-city, all-conference and all-district teams as a senior. As a defender, she was also cited to the third team all-state squad and played for the Evansville Elite club soccer team. "Emily is a very good man marker, with a great work ethic," said Sherwood.

Coyle, who posted an impressive career at Cathedral High, will be looked upon "to make significant contributions defensively, in either the midfield or the back," stated Sherwood. "She has a tremendous understanding of the game." A four-year letterwinner and three-time Indianapolis Star All-City selection, Coyle helped the Lady Irish to a 14-4-2 record including the program's second straight sectional title. A midfielder, Coyle, was cited to the second team all-state for her efforts on the field.
