Women's Soccer Adds Carmel Grad Kruger To 2008 Roster
July 16, 2007
Indianapolis, Ind. - Women's soccer head coach Tari St. John made one of her biggest recruiting splashes as the Butler mentor this week, adding local high school stand-out and former Indiana and UCLA midfielder Molly Kruger to the roster for the 2008 season. Kruger will sit out the 2007 campaign to meet NCAA residency requirements.
Kruger, a 5-7 junior mid from Indianapolis, comes to Butler after spending the 2006 season at UCLA, where she earned a pair of starts in 19 games as a sophomore. With her help, the Bruins finished the year with a 21-4 record, including an 8-1 record in Pac-10 competition.
Kruger began her collegiate career with the Hoosiers in 2005, where she finished second on the squad with nine points (three goals, three assists) as a starter in all 19 contests. She paced Indiana with 57 shots, including 23 on goal.
A four-year starter for Carmel High School, Kruger was a three-time NSCAA All-American while helping the Greyhounds to four-straight state titles. She was named the Indiana Player of the Year and was a two-time winner of the Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year.
As a member of the Carmel Commotion club team, Kruger helped the squad to the national championship game in 2003 where they finished as runners-up. The team also recorded a regional championship, three regional semi-finalist showings and four state championships.
"It is undisputable that Molly is a talented soccer player," St. John said, "but I am equally excited about her qualities as a person. She is a good teammate, a proven leader and an all around good person.
"Even though she will not be able to participate in games this fall, her presence will be felt, and I am certain she will find ways to contribute to the team."
Butler's 2007 recruiting class was ranked as the second-best in the Horizon League and 25th-best in the Great Lakes Region according to Soccer Buzz Magazine. Including Kruger, seven of the recruits had a part in helping their club squads to state championships during their high school careers.
The Bulldogs open the 2007 season at home with an exhibition match against Eastern Illinois on August 21.
