Women's Soccer Earns Fourth-Place Standing In Horizon League Pre-Season Poll

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Butler women's soccer team is predicted to finish fourth in the Horizon League standings this season, according to the league's pre-season poll which was released on Friday (August 24). The rankings were based on a vote of the league's head coaches.

Butler scored 34 points in the poll, finishing two points ahead of fifth-place Detroit. The Bulldogs were mentioned as high as third on at least one ballot.

Milwaukee, last year's regular season champion, finished as the top team in the poll with 56 points, including seven first place votes, while league tournament champ Loyola placed second with 49 points and one first place nod. Wright State came in third with 42 points.

The Bulldogs will feature eight starters returning from last year's squad that advanced to the semifinals of the Horizon League Championship in 2006. The team will also boast the one of the top recruiting classes in the Horizon League and the Great Lakes Region, according to Soccer Buzz Magazine.

Butler concludes its preseason competition on Friday (Aug. 24) when it takes on Illinois beginning at 6:00 p.m. in Champaign, Ill. The regular season opens in a week when the Bulldogs take on Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio on Aug. 31 at noon.
