Bulldogs Kick-Off Road Swing In Missouri This Weekend

Starting Off: Butler opens up a four-match road trip this weekend with a pair of contests in the Show Me State. The Bulldogs kick off the trek on Friday (Sept. 12) with an 8:00 p.m. ET match at Saint Louis before heading to Columbia, Mo., on Sunday (Sept. 14) to face Missouri beginning at 2:00 p.m. ET.

Butler Soccer On The Web: The Bulldogs' matches against both the Billikens and the Tigers will feature live statistics updates on Gametracker. The contests can be followed online by going to www.ButlerSports.com and clicking on the Gametracker link next to the match on the schedule.

A Look At The Weekend Match-ups: Butler will take a pair of first-time opponents in Saint Louis and Missouri this weekend. The Billikens will enter Friday's match with a 3-0-1 record on the year after battling Missouri State to a scoreless draw on Sunday (Sept. 7) at the Toys for Tots Tournament. The Tigers, meanwhile, will take a 2-2 record into a Friday match against Vanderbilt before welcoming the Bulldogs to town. Mizzou most recently claimed a 3-0 victory over Eastern Washington on Sunday.

Bulldogs Overpower Mastodons: Junior Carrie Twyman scored a pair of goals and junior Molly Kruger added a goal and two assists as the Bulldogs cruised to a 3-0 victory over visiting IPFW on Sunday (Sept. 7) afternoon at the Butler Bowl. Sophomore goalkeeper Laura Baker earned the victory while making a save and adding an assist in 60 minutes in net.

Shots Fired: The Bulldogs put together their most impressive offensive performance of the season against IPFW on Sunday (Sept. 7), out-shooting the Mastodons 23-3 en route to their shut-out victory. Carrie Twyman led the way with eight shots, while Maite Bastyr and Molly Kruger chipped in three each.

Goal to Goal: The Bulldogs' second goal of their match against IPFW was quite a sight to behold. Goalkeeper Laura Baker hit a booming clearing shot down field to Molly Kruger, who settled the ball about 40 yards from the opposing net. After shaking her defender, Kruger turned and drilled an arcing shot towards the goal that floated over the out-stretched arms of the IPFW keeper. The goal was Kruger's first as a member of the Bulldogs, while Baker's assist was her first of her college career.

Stepping Up: An offseason injury has kept Angie Muir, the Bulldogs' top returning scorer, off the field for the first five matches of the year, but junior Carrie Twyman has stepped up in her absence. The Avon, Ind., paces the squad with three goals, including both game-winners.

Quick Strike: It didn't take freshman defender Mandi Kotynski long to get the feel for the college game. The Hudson, Ohio, native subbed into Butler's season opener against Louisville midway through the first period and had not even finished playing her first collegiate minute before drilling her first touch from 20 yards for her first collegiate goal. The time that elapsed from entering the game to scoring: 37 seconds.

Road Trip: Butler kicks off a season-long four-match road trip this weekend. After making stops at Saint Louis and Missouri on Friday and Sunday, respectively, the Bulldogs head to in-state foe Indiana on Thursday, Sept. 18, before concluding the trip in Normal, Ill., on Sunday (Sept. 21) with a match against Illinois State.
