Indianapolis, Ind. - A trio of Bulldogs was recognized with Horizon League post season awards, as junior midfielder Molly Kruger, junior defender Abbie Kaul and sophomore midfielder Courtney Lord were named to all-league teams. The league office made the announcement on Wednesday (Oct. 29).
Kruger earned mention on the all-league first team and the all-newcomer squad, while Kaul and Lord were both tabbed to the all-league second team.
"This is a great honor for Molly, Abbie and Courtney, and very well deserved," head coach Tari St. John said. "These awards are a testament to the hard work and dedication they each have put forth all season long."
A native of Carmel, Ind., Kruger has been the Bulldogs' leading scorer in her first season at Butler, pacing the squad with nine goals - including six game-winners - and seven assists for 25 points. Her 4.28 shots per game are tops in the Horizon League, while her point total is third-best.
Kaul, a native of Fredonia, Wis., earns her third all-league award after being named to the all-newcomer team in 2006 and the first team in 2007. She has been an anchor in the back for the Bulldogs all season long, starting in all 20 matches and playing a team-high 1,865 minutes. Her seven points, coming on two goals and three assists, are tied for third on the squad.
Lord, a native of Brighton, Mich., picks up the second all-league mention of her career after being tabbed to the newcomer squad in 2007. She has started in all 18 of her matches played, totaling nearly 1,500 minutes, and collected an assist in the Bulldogs' victory over IPFW in September.
Butler heads into the Horizon League Championship quarterfinals this weekend as the No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 Detroit on Sunday (Nov. 2) beginning at 12:00 noon.
