Indianapolis, Ind. - By succeeding both on the playing field and in the classroom this season, Butler women's soccer players Morgan Cox and Angie Muir have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V Second Team. The announcement was made by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) on Nov. 1.
Cox, a sophomore defender from Rolling Prairie, Ind., has been a constant presence in the Butler backfield in all 18 matches this season. She was a major factor in the Bulldogs' 1.32 goals allowed average this season and helped to hold opponents to a mere five goals in the last nine contests. In the classroom, the chemistry major carries a 3.97 cumulative grade point average, which was the highest mark on the 10 player second team.
Muir, a junior midfielder from Carmel, Ind., earns her second academic all-district recognition of her career after receiving the second team honor last season. She leads the team and ranks third in the Horizon League with 26 points on 10 goals and six assists, including four game-winning scores. A 2007 All-Horizon League First Team member, Muir boasts a 3.81 cumulative grade point average as a secondary education and math major.
The No. 4 seeded Bulldogs open up the Horizon League Tournament on Saturday (Nov. 3) when they host No. 5 Valparaiso beginning at 12:00 noon in the Butler Bowl.
