On Senior Day, Butler seniors Annie Dolan and Bridget Paine scored the final two runs of the game to give the Bulldogs their 34th win of the year with a 6-4 victory over Detroit on Apr. 18 at the Butler Softball Field. Senior Kristin Malinkey started the game for the Bulldogs and allowed only one earned run in 3.2 innings of work. Dolan had a game-high three hits.
Seniors highlighted an 11 hit day for the Bulldogs. Dolan went 3-4 at the plate and scored a run. Shofroth was a perfect 2-2 with a walk on the day. Shofroth also recorded an RBI and scored a run. Senior Jennifer Arriaga was 2-3 and shared the game-high for RBIs with two.
Malinkey started the game for the Bulldogs and went 3.2 innings allowing four runs, only one earned run, on five hits. Jenny Esparza came in the fourth inning and struck out 10 of the 11 batters she faced to earn the win.
The Detroit Titans jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Zaccagni scored on a bases loaded walk. The Bulldogs took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the second inning when Mellissa Shofroth singled in Erin Falkenberry and Jennifer Arriaga knocked in both Shofroth and Erin Jackson on a single up the middle.
The Titans answered in the fourth inning scoring three runs in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game. Butler answered immediately scoring two runs in the bottom half of the inning when Devin Dearing drove in Dolan and Paine for what proved to be the deciding runs.
Next up the Bulldogs will face conference foe Wright State in the final regular season home games. Butler will play the Raiders twice on Tuesday Apr. 20 beginning at 3 p.m. and finish the series on Wednesday Apr. 21 at 3 p.m.
