Butler Signs Local Softball Standout
Devin Dearing, a four-year starter at Hamilton
Southeastern High School, has signed a Letter of Intent to continue
her softball career at Butler University. She will join the
Bulldogs this fall.
“Devin is a talented player and an outstanding young
woman,” said Butler head coach Jeanne
Rayman. “She has proven herself on the diamond
in high school and at the highest level of travel ball. Devin
will compete for playing time as a corner infielder and DP.
She has great power at bat, and has made herself a true student of
the game.”
The daughter of Doug and Vicki Dearing, Devin earned All-Hoosier
Crossroads Conference and All-Hamilton County recognition as a
third baseman for the Royals. She was a starter on Hamilton
Southeastern’s unbeaten (31-0) state championship team in
2007, and she helped the Royals to a pair of conference titles, one
sectional crown and one regional championship. Dearing, who
earned four varsity softball letters at Hamilton Southeastern,
served as a co-captain for the Royals last spring.
In addition to playing for Hamilton Southeastern, Dearing has been
a member of the Indiana Shockwaves (2005-07) and the Dreams
(2008-09) summer fastpitch teams. She served as a captain for
both teams.
The newest Bulldog served as a student athletic trainer at Hamilton
Southeastern, and she was a member of the school’s
band. She also was active in a number of community service
activities, including serving as co-chair of the “Mr.
Royal” Riley Children’s Hospital Fundraiser
(2008-09). A Scholar-Athlete, she earned membership in the
National Honor Society, was a member of the Hamilton Southeastern
Leadership Academy, served on the Student Council and graduated in
the “Top 10%” of her class.
“Devin is very driven in every aspect of her life,”
continued Rayman. “She has made academics and community
service top priorities, while at the same time becoming a great
ball player. Her deep-rooted passion for Butler University
makes her a perfect addition to our team.”
Dearing is the granddaughter of the late Bob Dearing (Butler
‘57) and the niece of former Butler baseball player Scott
Dearing (‘88).
