Butler Finishes Florida Trip With Two Wins
ORLANDO, FLA. -- Senior Erin Jackson sparked Butler’s
offense and the Bulldogs used a couple of stifling pitching
performances to record two more victories on the final day of a
10-game trip to the Rebel Games in Orlando, Fla., on Friday (March
18). Butler finished the successful trip with a 9-1
The Bulldogs defeated Siena, 4-0, behind the pitching of junior Breanna Fisher and sophomore Jenny Esparza in the first game of the day and then beat Rider, 9-2, to close out the week-long trip. The two wins stretched Butler’s winning streak to seven straight games.
Fisher pitched four-and-a-third innings in the opener and picked up the victory. She struck out four in her shutout stint. Esparza closed out the victory with six strikeouts in two-and-two-thirds innings.
Jackson led the Bulldogs at bat with two hits in three trips to the plate, two stolen bases and two runs batted in. Junior Erin Falkenberry slugged a solo home run in the win, the 24th of her Butler career.
Butler’s bats picked up in the second contest, with Jackson leading the way with three hits, two runs, two stolen bases and one RBI. Falkenberry added a pair of RBI’s, while junior Jessica Huey had a two-run double. Sophomore Kayla Gray was two for three in the victory.
Freshman Leah Bry pitched the first 3.1 innings, allowing just a single run. Senior Jennifer Chasteen closed out the win with a pair of strikeouts in 3.2 innings. She was nicked for a run, but it was unearned. She has now pitched 36.1 innings without allowing an earned run.
The two victories lifted Butler to 11-6 on the season. The Bulldogs will return north to play a doubleheader at Indiana on March 22, before playing their home-opener against Indiana State on March 24.
