Erin Falkenberry Named League Player of the Week
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler junior Erin Falkenberry, who became
the school’s all-time home run leader, has been named Horizon
League Softball Co-Player of the Week for the week beginning March
28. The Butler first baseman shared the league’s weekly
honor with Coryn Schmitt of UIC.
Falkenberry put on an impressive slugging performance during a
week that included a three-game sweep of league foe Detroit.
She hit six home runs and had a dozen runs batted in, while batting
.556 on the week. Her slugging percentage of 1.556 was off
the charts, and she had a .579 on-base percentage for the five
games.
The junior standout hit three home runs and drove in six runs in
Butler’s 11-1, five-inning victory at Detroit, and she belted
two home runs while leading the Bulldogs to an 8-6 win over the
Titans. Her sixth round-tripped came in Butler’s
non-league twinbill at IPFW.
Falkenberry has already tied her own Butler single season record
with 11 home runs this year. She also broke Butler’s
career record for home runs by running her three-year total to 30
round-trippers. The previous record was 25 home runs by Jenny
Jacobs (2005-08).
Schmitt, who also plays first base, had four home runs and nine
RBI’s for UIC in a three-game game series against Horizon
League foe Valparaiso.
Butler will have a pair of non-league doubleheaders at Dayton
(Wednesday, April 6) and at Notre Dame (Thursday, April 7), before
playing its first home league series this season against Cleveland
State on Saturday and Sunday, April 9-10. The Bulldogs will
play a doubleheader against the defending Horizon League champs,
starting at 1 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, and then a single game on
Sunday.
