Lauren McNulty Tabbed League Player of the Week
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler junior Lauren McNulty, who helped
Butler win five of six games and move into first place in the
league standings, has been named Horizon League Softball Player of
the Week. She earned the league’s weekly honor for the
first time this season.
McNulty batted .467 in Butler’s six games during the week
with seven hits in 15 trips to the plate. She scored three
runs and drove in four in the Bulldogs’ six Horizon League
games. She had a .667 slugging percentage and a .529 on-base
percentage during the week.
The Butler leftfielder saved her biggest hit for her last.
She slugged a two-run, home run in the bottom of the fifth inning
of Butler’s final game against Green Bay to lift the Bulldogs
to a 5-4, come-from-behind victory. The win helped boost the
Bulldogs into first place in the Horizon League standings,
percentage points ahead of Wright State in second place.
McNulty, who was 3-for-3 in the final win over Green Bay, also had
the game-winning RBi in Butler’s 2-0 victory over Valparaiso
earlier in the week. She wound up hitting safely in five of
Butler’s six games. Butler captured two of three games
in a league series against Valparaiso and then swept all three
contests against league foe Green Bay.
The Bulldogs will step out of league play for a doubleheader at
Miami (Ohio) on Tuesday, April 19, before returning to the Butler
Softball Field for a three-game league series against Youngstown
State on Friday and Saturday, April 22-23. The
Butler-Youngstown State doubleheader on Friday has been designated
as NFCA Strikeout Cancer Day, while the single game on Saturday
will be Butler’s Alumni/Senior Day.
