INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Seven Butler softball players have been honored for academic achievement by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.  Butler was further honored as a 2009-10 All-Academic Team.

Selected as 2009-10 Scholar-Athletes by the NFCA were senior pitcher Kristen Malinkey, sophomore outfielder Rachel Brummer, sophomore outfielder Lauren McNulty, sophomore catcher Mallory Winters, sophomore infielder Kayla Gray, freshman infielder Devin Dearing and freshman infielder Meaghan Sullivan.  To be named a Scholar-Athlete, players had to have acquired a 3.5 grade point average for the year.

The Butler softball team, which compiled a school-record 36-19 record last spring, boasted a 3.201 team grade point average.  The Bulldogs were one of three teams from the Horizon League (along with Loyola and Youngstown State) to be honored as a 2009-10 All-Academic Team.
