FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Junior Lauren McNulty hit a three-run home run and had five RBIs on the day to lead Butler softball in a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. The Bulldogs dropped two games to IPFW, 3-1 and 10-7.
McNulty drove in BU's only run in the first game, a 3-1 loss to the Mastodons. She smacked an RBI single that scored sophomore Meaghan Sullivan to give Butler a 1-0 lead in the top of the 6th. IPFW answered with three runs in the bottom half of the 6th to take the lead and ultimately, the game.
Junior Breanna Fisher pitched 5.2 shutout innings before allowing IPFW to score three unearned runs in the 6th. She struck out seven and scattered four hits in a solid pitching performance.
Butler also had a lead in the second game, as McNulty and junior Erin Falkenberry homered to awake the BU bats. The Dawgs led 3-2 and 6-4 before the Mastodons exploded for six runs in the bottom of the 6th inning.
BU's seventh and final run came on Falkenberry's solo homer to left in the top of the 7th. McNulty's three-run homer in the 4th and a sac fly early in the game were highlights for Butler.
BU (13-11) will play a three-game series at Detroit April 2-3.
