Pat Medler, a former successful high school softball coach, joined the Butler coaching staff in the spring of 2012. He works with Butler’s outfielders and assists with hitting instruction.
Medler compiled a .740 winning percentage over 17 seasons at Pendleton Heights High School and Westfield High School. He led Pendleton Heights for 13 seasons, 1987-2000, and guided the Arabians to a 275-73 record. He compiled a 33-35 record in four seasons, 2002-05, at Westfield.
During his high school coaching career, he led teams to eight conference championships, seven sectional titles, two regional crowns and one state Final Four appearance. He was named conference Coach of the Year eight times and district Coach of the Year twice. He also served as the Indiana South All-Star Coach in 1988 and 1994.
Medler was inducted into the Indiana High School Softball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2002.
The new Butler coach earned a B.S. Degree in Secondary Education from Purdue (1978) and a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from IUPUI (1985). He and his wife, Paula, have three children, Jason, Kendra and Lindsay, and four grandchildren, Nolan, Kalli, Macie and Kambry.
