Butler Adds Softball Recruit
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler softball coach Scott Hall added to
his 2012 recruiting class with the mid-summer signing of Riley
Carter, a talented catcher/shortstop from Uxbridge, Ontario,
Canada. Carter joins five incoming freshmen previously signed
by Hall.
“We are thrilled to have Riley joining us this fall,”
said Hall, who will be heading into his third season as
Butler’s softball coach. “She brings a lot of
experience and athleticism to our already deep 2012 recruiting
class. Riley is a power threat at the plate and a very solid
catcher. We expect her to work hard and help us compete for
our first Atlantic 10 title.”
Carter, who played both varsity softball and volleyball at Bill
Crothers Secondary School, has played in the top softball tier in
Canada for her age group. She was selected to the Provincial
Ontario Team U16 and helped the squad finish fifth at the 2010
Easton U16 World Cup. She batted .545 with 14 runs batted in
and was named Provincial MVP. She won a Silver Medal at the
Provincials and at the Canadian National Championships in 2010.
In 2011, Carter played at the Canadian National Championships with
the Scarborough Rays and finished second among catchers with a .455
batting average. This summer, she was selected to Provincial
Ontario Team U18, which finished fifth at the 2012 Canadian
International Fastpitch Open.
Carter also was selected to the Junior National final evaluation
camp with Canada’s top U19 players as a 16-year-old.
Previously, Hall had signed Alex Kotter of Vincennes Lincoln High
School, Chelsea Conover of Brownsburg High School, Audrey East of
New Palestine High School, Taylor Lockwood of Southport High School
and Kristin Gutierrez of Highlands Ranch (Colo.) High School to
Butler’s 2012 recruiting class.
