Dawgs Shut Down Loyola 4-0

INDIANAPOLIS - An RBI double by junior Kayla Gray and a two-run double by senior Jessica Huey lifted the Butler softball team to a 4-0 win over Loyola on Sunday. The win allowed Butler to take two of three against the Ramblers.

Junior Jenny Esparza and senior Breanna Fisher combined on the shutout. Esparza gave up two hits and struck out five over 4.0 innings for the win. Fisher worked 3.0 innings for the save.

A couple of walks and an error in the bottom of the 1st allowed BU to take a 1-0 lead. Senior Mallory Winters walked with the bases loaded to get the Dawgs on the board.

Butler took a 2-0 lead when Gray smacked a double to left-center in the 4th inning that drove in sophmore Krista Hakola

In the next inning, Huey hit a shot to center that just alluded Loyola centerfielder Brooke Andresen. The ball rolled to the fence and scored two runs to give BU a 4-0 lead.

Huey finished the day 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a sacrifice. Hakola scored two runs and freshman Kristen Boros went  2-for-4.

Butler, which won three of four this week, will play two games at Indiana State Wednesday, April 4. The Bulldogs host UIC next weekend.
