NASHVILLE, TENN. -- Senior Meaghan Sullivan had three hits and scored a pair of runs and junior Leah Bry turned in a complete game pitching performance to lead Butler to a 7-3 victory over host Tennessee State in the final game of the Tennessee State Tiger Invitational on Sunday (Feb. 24). The Bulldogs finished the tournament with a pair of wins.
Sullivan sparked a 10-hit attack by the Bulldogs in the finale. She drove in Butler's first run in the third inning with a single up the middle, and she scored runs after adding a single in the fifth inning and a double in the seventh.
Bry pitched all seven innings and allowed just two earned runs on six hits. She had 12 strikeouts and no walks, while picking up her first 2013 victory. The win came one day after she lost a no-hitter and the game, 1-0, to IUPUI on a two-out, home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Butler (2-7) took a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning on a run-scoring double by sophomore Kristin Boros and a Tennessee State throwing error. The big blow of the game was delivered by freshman Audrey East, who slugged a three-run, home run in the fifth.
Bry struck out at least one Tennessee State batter in each of the seven innings.
Earlier in the day, Bradley used a seven-run, seventh inning to pull out a 14-7, come-from-behind win over the Bulldogs. The Braves scored 13 runs in the final three innings to overcome a 5-1 deficit.
Boros led Butler's attack against Bradley with a pair of hits and two runs scored, while freshman Krosley Ogden added two hits.
Sullivan and Bry were named to the 12-player All-Tournament Team following the conclusion of the five-team event, won by Bradley.
