Bulldogs Win Two At Rebel Games

Head Coach Scott Hall

KISSIMMEE, FLA. -- Butler continued to receive strong pitching performances and ran its current winning streak to four in a row with a pair of victories at the Rebel Games on Tuesday, March 12.  The Bulldogs defeated Lehigh, 2-0, in the first game and then beat North Dakota, 4-2, in the second.

Freshman Kristin Gutierrez went the distance in the opener and blanked Lehigh on three hits.  She recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts and allowed just one walk, while picking up her first collegiate win.

The Bulldogs jumped in front in the first inning when Audrey East scored on an error. Cassie Rupel drove in Callie Dennison in the second inning for Butler's other run.  Sophomore Kristen Boros went three for three in the game to pace Butler's 10-hit attack.  Dennison and Krosley Ogden each added a pair of hits.

In the second game, head coach Scott Hall turned to senior ace Jenny Esparza, and she responded with a solid outing to pick up the win.  Junior Leah Bry came on in relief to earn a save.

The Bulldogs (6-11) will continue play in the Rebel Games on Thursday, March 14, with games against Army and Wagner.
