Bridget Fournie, a former collegiate and professional softball player with seven years of coaching experience, was named assistant softball coach at Butler in September, 2008. She joined the Bulldogs' after spending the previous two seasons as an assistant softball coach at Bradley University.

Fournie was an accomplished player at Illinois State University, 1998-2001, and she began her coaching career as a student assistant coach with the Redbirds in 2002. She served as an assistant coach at Belleville (Ill.) High School for one year (2003), at Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo., for two years (2004-05) and at Western Illinois University for one year (2006), before assuming her position at Bradley.

Success has followed Fournie as both a player and as an assistant coach. She was part of two conference championship teams as a player at Illinois State, and she helped the Redbirds to a third Missouri Valley Conference title as a student assistant coach. She helped Belleville High School to a state championship in 2003 and then was part of two conference championship teams at Maryville. In her one season at Western Illinois, the Westerwinds finished runner-up in the conference tournament.

A four-year letterwinner at Illinois State, Fournie was named All-Missouri Valley Conference as an outfielder for three straight years, 1999-2001. She set a school record with 217 career starts, every game of her collegiate career! She also finished third on Illinois State's all-time list for runs scored with 117. She helped the Redbirds to a conference regular season title in 2001, back-to-back conference tournament championships in 2000 and 2001 and back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2000 and 2001. Over her final three seasons, the Redbirds posted 95 wins.

A three-time ASA Softball All-American, Fournie played one season of professional softball with the PFX Tour (2006). She also participated in the U. S. Olympic Team Tryouts in 1998 and 2002. She has served as a softball camp/clinic instructor at Bradley (2 years), Western Illinois (1 year), Maryville (2 years), Illinois State (6 years) and Belleville East High School (8 years).

Fournie earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and Kinesiology from Illinois State in 2002.
