Butler's second day at the Sleep Inn Classic in Denton, Texas, resembled the first. The Bulldogs ran into a pair strong pitchers and wound up dropping games to Missouri State, 7-1, and host North Texas, 2-0. Butler will wrap up tournament play with a single game against Iowa State on Sunday, Feb. 22.
Lauren Supak limited the Bulldogs to six hits in a complete-game performance for Missouri State in the opener. She had six strikeouts and walked just two. Butler scored an unearned run in the third inning on a single by Melissa Shofroth, a sacrifice bunt and a throwing error.
Outfielder Alex Boros had a pair of hits for the Bulldogs, including a double. Freshman Breanna Fisher pitched the first five innings for the Bulldogs and suffered the loss, while Kristen Malinkey pitched two shutout innings in relief.
In the nightcap, righthander Kayla Lawson tossed a complete-game shutout against the Bulldogs. She allowed just three hits, while striking out three. Shofroth had two of Butler's three hits in the game, while Boros had the other. Sophomore Lauren Ott was given the start for the Bulldogs, and she allowed both runs in 4.1 innings of work.
