Indianapolis, Ind. - A four-run seventh inning, capped by a two-out, two-run game-winning single by Alex Boros, gave the Bulldogs a 5-4 come-from-behind victory in the first game of a double-header against Loyola on Friday (March 21) afternoon. The Ramblers would outlast Butler in the finale, however, edging out a 1-0 win in 11 innings.
Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh, the Bulldogs struck for four of their eight hits to rally for their first Horizon League win of the year.
Nikki Naffziger led off the frame with a single to left before a double by Macy McMullen and a walk by Annie Dolan loaded the bases. An infield single by Lindsay Schluge moved the runners up a base while cutting the deficit to two.
A strikeout and an RBI ground-out brought the score to 4-3 but gave the Bulldogs just one more out to complete the turnaround.
Boros did not disappoint, roping a single into left to plate both Dolan and Schluge with the tying and winning scores.
A three-run second inning gave Loyola an early lead before a single run in the third put the Ramblers in front 4-0.
Naffziger put the Bulldogs on the board in the fifth, however, lining a home run to right center.
In addition to her 2-for-3 performance at the plate, Naffziger earned her fourth win of the year in the circle, striking out six and walking two in seven innings. Boros and Schluge each added two hits a piece as well.
In the night cap, the two squads battled through 10 scoreless innings before Loyola pushed across a run in the 11th on a sacrifice fly.
Butler had a chance to score in the seventh, putting runners on second and third with two down before Loyola induced an inning-ending ground-out.
Kristen Malinkey went the distance for the Bulldogs, scattering seven hits and striking out four.
