Host Evansville unleashed two strong pitching performances and handed Butler back-to-back losses in a non-league doubleheader at Cooper Stadium in Evansville on Wednesday, March 25. The Aces captured the first game, 7-1, and then took the nightcap, 8-0.
Butler managed just four hits off of Evansville starter Kylie Wagner (3-9) in the opener. Wagner pitched five shutout innings before the Bulldogs broke through in the top of the sixth on a run-scoring single by Alex Boros to cut the Evansville lead to 3-1. But the host squad answered Butler's tally with four runs in the bottom of the sixth frame.
Boros, Annie Dolan, Bridget Paine and Lindsay Schluge, who scored the lone run, recorded Butler's four hits in the game. Freshman Breanna Fisher pitched the first five innings of the game and suffered the setback.
Evansville righthander Jennifer McKee blanked the Bulldogs on one hit in the nightcap. She faced just 21 batters in the run-shortened contest, striking out four while walking two. Freshman Lauren McNulty picked up Butler's lone hit in the contest.
The Bulldogs (6-16) will host Dayton in a doubleheader at the Butler Softball Field on Thursday, March 26. The first game is slated for 3 p.m.
