Sophomore Erin Jackson and freshman Erin Falkenberry sparked a six-run, sixth inning rally and helped lead Butler to a 13-6 victory over host Detroit in the final game of a three-game Horizon League series at Buysse Ballpark on Sunday, March 29. The victory gave Butler a sweep of the series and extended the Bulldogs' current winning streak to five straight games.
The Bulldogs were clinging to a 5-4 lead in the top of the sixth inning, when junior Bridget Paine ignited the decisive rally with a single through the left side. Freshman Mallory Winters followed with her third hit of the game, and Falkenberry cleared the bases with her seventh home run of the season. The blow ended the day for Detroit starter Jill Perry (2-11), but not the Butler rally.
The Bulldogs added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning on solo home runs by senior Alex Boros and Winters.
Butler, coming off a 13-5 victory one game earlier, tallied five runs in the first four innings of the game. Boros had a run-scoring double in the first inning and Paine scored on an error in the third. The Bulldogs added three more runs in the fourth, highlighted by Jackson's run-scoring double.
Freshman righthander Breanna Fisher (5-8) went the distance for the Bulldogs and picked up her second win in as many days. She had four strikeouts, no walks and gave up just two earned runs.
The Bulldogs (11-16) pounded out a season-high 18 hits in the win, including four doubles, a triple and three home runs. Butler's 11 RBI's in the contest were one shy of the team's season-high set one day earlier against the Titans. Winters finished the game with four hits, while Ashton finished with three. Five other Bulldogs had two hits in the win.
