Dayton used two strong starting performances to take a pair of shutout wins over visiting Butler Wednesday afternoon at UD Arena Stadium in Dayton, Ohio. Butler combined for just eight hits in the 4-0 and 1-0 losses in non-conference action. After the twinbill, Butler falls to 16-18, while Dayton improves to 13-12-1.
Freshman Nikki Naffziger took the loss in the opener, fanning nine Flyers, but allowing three earned runs. She fell to 11-7 on the year. Junior Meghan Howard got the call in the nightcap and allowed just one run and three hits in six innings of work, but fell to 0-5 on the season.
Butler returns to action Friday with a doubleheader at IPFW. The first pitch is set for 3 p.m. The team then travels to Detroit for a weekend Horizon League series. Butler is 5-2 in conference play this season.
