Butler Drops Series Finale At Detroit, 9-2

Pitcher Jill Perry turned in a complete game performance and host Detroit supported her effort with an 11-hit attack to capture the final game of a three-game Horizon League series with Butler, 9-2, at Buysse Ballpark on Sunday (April 15). The win lifted Detroit to 9-18 on the year and 1-5 in league play, while Butler slipped to 15-13 overall and 4-2 in the league.

Perry limited the Bulldogs to five hits through seven innings of work, while improving to 2-2 on the season. She had two strikeouts and one walk in the distance performance.

Detroit exploded for six runs in the third inning, scoring four runs off of Butler starter Jamie Wonderly (7-5) and two off of relief pitcher Nikki Naffziger. Adrienne Baran and Erica Houthoofd each had a two-run home run in the Titans' rally.

Butler managed single runs off of Perry in the third and fifth innings. Senior JoAnna Zumbrun drove in senior Jill Meinhold with the first run, while sophomore Lindsay Schluge drove in sophomore Annie Dolan with the second tally. Perry then blanked the Bulldogs over the final two innings to secure the Titans' first league victory.

The Bulldogs will step out of league play and travel to IUPUI for a doubleheader on Monday, April 16. The first game is slated to start 2 p.m.
