Butler's Jenny Jacobs drove in two runs and Meghan Howard and Nikki Naffziger combined to allow just one run in a 2-1 win at Loyola Sunday afternoon. Butler snapped a 10-game losing skid with the win in the team's regular season finale. The Bulldogs improve to 19-31 (7-12 Horizon League), while Loyola falls to 17-28 (8-6).
The Bulldogs got on the board first. Senior Maria Marchesano singled to center field with one out in the top of the first. After a Loyola error, Marchesano scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Jacobs. Loyola then tied the game in the bottom of the second when Tara Miller led off the frame with a solo homer to left field.
Jacobs was back at it in the sixth inning when her infield single scored sophomore JoAnna Gonzalez, who singled down the right field line to open the inning.
Howard got the start for the Bulldogs and allowed one run in four innings of work. Naffziger relieved her in the fifth and pitched three scoreless innings to pick up the win. She improves to 13-15 on the season.
Mia Pangere took the loss for Loyola. Each team had five hits.
The Bulldogs now take the week off to focus on final exams before the Horizon League Tournament begins May 12 in Green Bay, Wis.
