Bulldogs Win Final Game At IUPUI Tournament

Sophomore Lauren Ott and junior Kristen Malinkey combined on a four-hitter to lead Butler to a 6-1 victory over St. Joseph's in the Bulldogs' final game at the IUPUI Tournament in Indianapolis on Sunday, Sept. 21. The Bulldogs finished the exhibition tournament with a 1-3 record.

Ott pitched the first three and two-thirds innings in the contest and allowed one run on four hits. Malinkey came on to blank the Pumas on no hits over the final two and a third innings. The two Butler pitchers allowed just seven total runners in the game.

Sophomore Erin Jackson sparked Butler's offense against St. Joseph's with two hits and a run scored. Junior Bridget Paine and freshman Erin Falkenberry each clubbed a double in the victory.

Butler dropped a 5-3 decision to Eastern Kentucky in the first game of the tournament, despite getting two hits each from Jackson, senior Alex Boros and freshman Rachel Brummer in the four-inning contest. Host IUPUI topped the Bulldogs, 7-0, in the second outing and Indianapolis held on for a 4-2 win in Butler's third game.

Boros led the Bulldogs with six hits, including a double, in the four games, while Jackson chipped in with five hits, including a double.

The Bulldogs will wrap up their fall season at the Indiana State Tournament, Sept. 27-28.
