Butler closed out the fall softball season by winning three of five games at the Indiana State Invitational on Sept. 29-30. The three wins lifted the Bulldogs to 9-3 for the fall campaign.
Butler fell in the opening game of the tournament to Evansville, 2-1, despite the two-hit pitching of Kristen Malinkey. But the Bulldogs bounced back with wins over Lakeland, 3-1, and St. Joseph's, 1-0, before dropping a 6-1 decision to host Indiana State. Butler closed out the tournament with a 6-4 victory over IUPUI.
Malinkey was in complete control against Evansville, and the Bulldogs carried a 1-0 lead into the seventh inning. But the Aces rallied for two runs in the seventh to pull out the come-from-behind win. Butler had six hits in the contest, and Bridget Paine drove in Annie Dolan with the Bulldogs' lone run.
Butler managed just two hits against Indiana State, with Boros scoring the lone run. But the Bulldogs' bats came alive against IUPUI in the tournament finale. Freshman Erin Jackson led Butler's nine-hit attack with three hits and two runs score. Paine hit her second home run of the tournament and Lindsay Schluge added a pair of hits and two runs scored.
The Bulldogs will begin their spring season on Feb. 29 at Georgia.
